Installing a door chain on your front door is a very easy and quick way to boost your home security. It will give you the peace of mind knowing if you’re home alone and someone calls to the door, you can safely open the door enough to check who it is.
Step 1
Mark Position
Select a comfortable height for your door chain, making sure it doesn’t interfere with the door lock when it’s hanging free. Use a pencil to mark the position of the door chain’s mounting holes, and then using a bradawl make starter holes for the screws.
Step 2
Screw in Receiver Plate
Screw the chain and receiver into place firmly.
Step 3
Test
Test the chain allows you to look through an opening in the door to talk to someone who is outside but does not allow a hand to be pushed through the gap.
