Hanging baskets are great for brightening up your home, adding flowers where ground space may be limited. It can be deceptively heavy, especially when freshly watered. Our step by step guide will help you to hang your baskets safely and securely.
Determine Basket Location
Select a suitable location to hang your basket. It should hang well above head height to avoid people bumping into it. Ensure there is no wiring behind the wall location you choose (you may need to use a current detector). Hold the bracket up against the wall in the desired location. Using your pencil, mark the locations where screws will be required to secure the supporting bracket. These locations should be in the masonry itself (the block or brick, not the weaker cement). Make sure the screws will be aligned by using the spirit level.
Select Fixings
Select heavy duty wall plugs and screws, as hanging baskets can get heavy especially when wet.
Prepare Drill Bit
Select a masonry drill bit and mark with tape a point longer than the screw on the drill bit. This will let you know if you have drilled a long enough hole for the screw.
Drill Required Holes
Drill into each of the marked spots to create holes just large enough to insert the wall plugs that will support the screws.
Insert Wall Plugs
Insert the wall plugs into the drilled holes and use a hammer to lightly tap them in, flush to the wall.
Screw in Bracket
Firmly screw the bracket into place.
Hang Basket
Hang the basket by its chain onto the bracket.
